Car theft suspect sought at 7-Eleven in Park Ridge – NBC Chicago

Police in the northern suburb of Park Ridge were searching Friday for the man who stole a family’s car as they stopped at a 7-Eleven convenience store to buy milk, authorities said.

At about 10:26 p.m. Thursday, Park Ridge police were called to a 7-Eleven, 814 Higgins Road, for a carjacking, police said. Officers found that a woman had parked her white 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee in front of the store and gone inside to purchase milk while her mother and three-year-old child remained in the vehicle.

The suspect walked up to the SUV, displayed a small handgun and ordered the grandmother and child to get out of the back seat. After they exited the vehicle, the mother left the store, at which point the suspect demanded that she hand over her wallet at gunpoint, police said. The victim complied and the suspect drove away in her vehicle, police said.

The vehicle was later found in the area of ​​West 34th and South Halsted Street in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood. Police say the driver fled after the vehicle was involved in an accident. Authorities searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Police released surveillance photos in the hope that someone would identify the person responsible. The suspect is described as being between 19 and 25 years old, of slim build, wearing a blue baseball cap, dark shirt and blue jeans.
