BERKELEY – A man who died Wednesday night after authorities said he was struck by an Amtrak train near Aquatic Park was identified by the medical examiner’s office Friday as 28-year-old Malik Cross of Oakland.

Cross was struck by a Coast Starlight train traveling from Los Angeles to Seattle around 10:50 p.m. Wednesday on railroad tracks near Grayson Street, authorities said.

His death was pronounced at the scene.

Authorities have not commented on why they believe Cross was on the tracks.

None of the 198 passengers or crew on board the train were injured.

The train was delayed for more than two hours while authorities on site conducted investigations.

Amtrak continues to work with local law enforcement to investigate the death, officials said.
