Hidalgo County detention officer arrested for sexual assault

A A Hidalgo County jail guard was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, the county said in a press release Friday.

Sebastian Rodriguez, 19, was arrested by Pharr police on Thursday and “immediately” released from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

Rodriguez was off duty at the time of his arrest. Details of the charges are not currently available.

Pharr Police are currently investigating the case.

The district issued a statement about the arrest.

“As an organization, we are committed to maintaining the public’s and community’s trust in the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office,” the county’s press release said. “We will thoroughly investigate all allegations of employee misconduct and take the necessary actions to ensure accountability and transparency to the citizens we serve.”
