Man charged months after fatal Statesville shooting, police say – WSOC TV

STATESVILLE, NC — A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting two months ago in Statesville, according to Statesville police.

In the early morning hours of April 21, police responded to a 911 call regarding a gunshot victim at a home on Stewart Court.

At the crime scene, police found 52-year-old Richard Wayne Pledger in the house with numerous gunshot wounds.

According to police, Pledger was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation led to 30-year-old Devin Emanuel Rankin being identified as a suspect in the case.

According to police, Rankin was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, criminal possession of a weapon and discharging a firearm within city limits.

On June 27, the Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force of the U.S. Marshals, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department and the Statesville Police Department were able to arrest Rankin at a home on North Lackey Street.

He is being held without bail in the Iredell County Jail.
