By Michael V. Cusenza

On Wednesday, two days before a 21-year-old woman fought off a man who attempted to sexually assault her while she was sunbathing in Central Park, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that Christian Inga had been charged with attacking two 13-year-olds who were in Kissena Park on the afternoon of June 13.

25-year-old Inga from Corona is said to have threatened them with a knife in a forest, tied the boy and girl’s hands together and then raped the girl.

Inga was charged with sexual assault, first-degree rape, two counts of second-degree child abduction, two counts of first-degree robbery, second-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, obstruction of governmental administration and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the indictment:

On June 13, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a boy and a girl, both 13 years old, were approached by Inga in Kissena Park in Flushing. He brandished a knife or machete with a long blade. He tied the children together and gagged them with pieces of cloth. Inga then forcibly took the two teenagers’ cell phones and raped the girl. He then fled the park.

“This attack on two children in broad daylight in a city park strikes at the core of our society,” said Katz. “We thank the courageous victims who came forward and the New York Police Department for their quick action in arresting the defendant, who must now face justice in our courts.”

If convicted, Inga faces up to 25 years in prison or even life imprisonment.
