Truck rams cyclist dragging 4-year-old in tow truck, killing child

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP/Gray News) – Officials in Walton County, Florida are investigating a crash that resulted in the death of a 4-year-old child.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on a main street in Miramar Beach.

A report from the Florida Highway Patrol said the crash involved a truck and a pedestrian near the intersection of Scenic Gulf Drive and Highway 98.

According to authorities, a 65-year-old Defuniak Springs man was turning off Scenic Gulf Drive when a 40-year-old man on a bicycle, pulling a child in a trailer cart, crossed the road.

Cyclists and trucks collided at the intersection.

Officials said the child was pronounced dead at the scene. The cyclist suffered minor injuries.

Both roads were closed while investigators worked on the case.
