Yediyurappa and associates paid money to sexual assault victim and mother to buy their silence: Karnataka CID chargesheet | City News

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating allegations of sexual abuse of a minor girl against former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa. The chargesheet alleges that the BJP leader and three other accused paid money to the alleged victim and her mother to buy their silence.

Yediyurappa, 81, has been charged under Section 8 (punishment for sexual abuse) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and sections 354A (sexual molestation), 204 (destruction of documents or electronic records to prevent their production as evidence) and 214 (offering gift or return of property in return for verification of offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The other three co-accused – Arun YM, Rudresh M and G Mariswamy, who are associates of Yediyurappa – are being charged under sections 204 and 214 of the Indian Penal Code, according to the chargesheet filed in the Fast Track Court 1 for POCSO Act cases here on Thursday.

According to the chargesheet, on February 2 this year at around 11.15 am, the 17-year-old alleged victim and her 54-year-old mother – the complainant – visited Yediyurappa at his residence in Dollar’s Colony to help him get justice in a previous case of sexual assault (of the daughter) and other matters.
While Yediyurappa was talking to the mother, he held the victim’s right wrist with his left hand, it was said.

Yediyurappa then called the minor into a meeting room adjacent to the hall and locked the door. He then asked the victim if she remembered the face of the person who had sexually abused her earlier, to which the victim replied “yes” twice, the chargesheet said.

Festive offer

Yediyurappa then asked her how old she was, to which she replied six and a half. At this point, he allegedly tried to sexually assault her, the CID claimed.
The horrified victim pushed Yediyurappa’s hand away, walked away and asked him to open the door. Yediyurappa then opened the door and left the building after giving the victim some cash from his pocket. He then told the victim’s mother that he could not help them in the case, also gave her some money from his pocket and sent her away, the chargesheet said.

After the victim’s mother uploaded a video of the incident on her Facebook account on February 20, the other accused – Arun, Rudresh and Mariswamy – went to her house on the behest of Yediyurappa and took her to his residence, it was said.

According to the chargesheet, Arun then made the victim’s mother delete the video from her Facebook account and her iPhone’s gallery. On Yediyurappa’s instructions, Rudresh allegedly paid the alleged victim two lakh rupees in cash.

A Bengaluru court issued a non-bailable warrant against Yediyurappa on June 13. The case was filed against him on March 14 this year. The Karnataka High Court on June 14 restrained the CID from arresting Yediyurappa and asked him to appear before the court for remand. Yediyurappa was interrogated by the CID for over three hours on June 17.

The victim’s mother, who had filed the case against Yediyurappa, died of lung cancer in a private hospital last month. The victim’s brother filed a petition in the court earlier this month alleging that despite the case being registered on March 14, no progress had been made in the investigation. The petitioner asked that Yediyurappa be arrested and interrogated.

Yediyurappa has denied the allegations and said he will contest the case legally. He has filed another petition challenging the entire proceedings against him, which are pending in the Supreme Court.
