Bookshelf recalled after 4-year-old dies when it tips over – WFTV

Dania Furniture has recalled 940 Hayden bookcases sold in its stores nationwide and online, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported on its website.

The recalled bookcase is unstable if not anchored to the wall. Inadequately secured bookcases can tip over or become trapped, posing a danger to children, the CPSC said.

A 4-year-old died in 2023 when one of the bookshelves tipped over, Fox 8 in Tampa, Florida reported. The bookshelves were made in Italy and distributed by Dania Furniture in its stores and online. They were sold for about $370 between November 2017 and February 2024, Fox 8 reported.

Officials warned customers not to use these bookshelves and to keep them out of the reach of children if they are not anchored to the wall.

Dania Furniture said customers can contact them and have a tip-over protection kit installed for free. Customers can also receive a full refund if they wish.
