“More health workers have been killed in Gaza since October than were killed in all conflicts worldwide in 2021 and 2022 combined,” Medical Aid for Palestine said.

Late Thursday evening, Israeli forces killed three members of the civil defense team while they were working in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, Al-Jazeera’s Arabic channel reported.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said 18 of its ambulances were out of service due to a lack of fuel.

The figure “corresponds to 36% of the capacity of the PRCS ambulance fleet,” according to the PRCS said on Thursday on X.

The organization stressed that it had “not received its daily delivery of gasoline from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for about eight days.”

This share had previously covered “only 6 percent of the ambulances’ operational capacity,” it said, because Israel had “prevented the import of fuel into the Gaza Strip.”

Already reduced quantity

The PRCS pointed out that before the supply was stopped, the amount of gasoline had already fallen to just three percent of the ambulances’ daily needs.

“As a result, the PRCS warns that it will be able to provide fewer ambulance and emergency services in the coming days due to the lack of fuel, as the Israeli occupation keeps the Rafah border crossing closed for approximately 52 days.”

The quantities of fuel imported through the Karm Abu Salem border crossing “are not sufficient to meet the needs of the medical and aid sectors.”

Palestinian doctors, hospitals and nurses are priority targets of the Israeli military in Gaza

The PRCS called on the international community to intervene urgently to reopen the Rafah border crossing and allow the flow of humanitarian aid, especially fuel.

The aim is to “prevent the complete collapse of the health system due to the failure of hospital generators and other ambulance transport as well as the complete shutdown of water desalination plants and sewage networks.”

500 healthcare workers killed

Since the Israeli military offensive began on October 7, 500 health workers have been killed in Gaza through June 25, the British charity Medical Aid for Palestine (MAP) said in a statement on Wednesday.

“This equates to an average of two deaths in the health sector per day. This means that one in forty health workers, or 2.5 percent of the personnel working in the Gaza Strip, is dead,” the MAP statement said.

It continues: “More health workers have been killed in Gaza since October than were killed in all conflicts worldwide in 2021 and 2022 combined.”

The 500th health worker killed was Hani Al Ja’afarwi, director of emergency and rescue services, during an Israeli military airstrike on a clinic in Gaza City on June 23, according to the organization.

Over 37,000 dead

Israel, which is currently on trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against the Palestinians, has been waging a devastating war against Gaza since October 7.

According to the Gaza Strip Health Ministry, 37,765 Palestinians were killed and 86,429 injured. In addition, at least 11,000 people are missing, presumed to have perished under the rubble of their homes throughout the Gaza Strip.

According to Israel, 1,200 soldiers and civilians were killed during the flood relief operation in Al-Aqsa on October 7. Israeli media reported that many Israelis were killed by friendly fire that day.

Palestinian and international organizations say the majority of the dead and injured are women and children.

The Israeli war led to an acute famine, especially in the north of the Gaza Strip, and caused the deaths of many Palestinians, especially children.

The Israeli aggression also resulted in the forced displacement of nearly two million people from across the Gaza Strip. The vast majority of those displaced were forced to the densely populated southern city of Rafah, near the Egyptian border. It was the largest mass exodus from Palestine since the Nakba of 1948.
