2 pedestrians struck and killed by Amtrak train to Charlotte – WSOC TV

CHARLOTTE – Two people were struck and killed by an Amtrak train in separate incidents in North Carolina, authorities confirmed to Channel 9.

Amtrak told Channel 9 that a person was struck by a train near Charlotte early Friday morning. MEDIC confirmed that one person died at the scene of the accident on Old Concord Road near Rocky River Road.

Burlington police told Channel 9 that a person was struck by a train near York Road around 8 p.m. Thursday. The victim, 47-year-old Daniel Cameron Wagoner, was walking east on the tracks when the train came from the opposite direction.

A passenger traveling on the Amtrak train to Charlotte said the same train was involved in both incidents. Amtrak’s route for the southbound Carolinian goes through Burlington and Charlotte.

Amtrak officials said the train was coming from New York City. According to the Amtrak website, the train stopped in Durham, North Carolina, around 7 p.m. Thursday night and didn’t arrive in Charlotte until 4:07 a.m. That was seven hours later than scheduled.

Amtrak said none of the 106 passengers or crew members were injured and that the company is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.

A Channel 9 crew also saw a CATS bus at the scene of the accident and is trying to determine why it was there.
