Suspect arrested after shooting and killing man in Catawba County

VALE, NC (WBTV) – A man is under suspicion after allegedly shooting another man in a Catawba County home Thursday night.

The Sheriff’s Office said officers were called to the Hope Road home around 5 p.m. and found a man, 31-year-old Larry Ray Whisnant, dead from a gunshot wound.

After the shooting, authorities arrested 30-year-old Trevor Kiernan O’Mara and charged him with murder.

According to deputies, there was an argument between the two men before the shooting.

O’Mara is being held without bail in the Catawba County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
