Biden and Trump trade blows during Atlanta debate

ATLNTA, GA (Gray DC) – Donald Trump and Joe Biden took the stage in Atlanta, deadlocked in a tight race for the White House. New debate rules made the conversation more civil, but the rematch was still highly contentious.

No notes, no audience and muted microphones. A first debate of its kind between Joe Biden and Donald Trump again gave rise to numerous criticisms. Trump lashed out at Biden when the president appeared to stumble over his words.

“I don’t really know what he said at the end of that sentence,” Trump said. “I don’t think he knows what he said either.”

Biden, for his part, took aim at Trump’s civil and criminal legal cases.

“Assaulting a woman in public. For having done a whole series of things. For having sex with a porn star that same evening while your wife was pregnant. »

At times the debate degenerated into petty comments about handicaps and golf’s weight, but the candidates faced questions about their political vulnerabilities, including Donald Trump’s overturning Roe v. Wade.

“What’s happened is we’ve brought it down to the state level and the country has now come together on this issue, and that’s a great thing,” Trump said.

“What you did was a terrible thing,” Biden responded.

Biden faced questions from moderators and Trump on immigration.

“When he was president, he separated babies from their mothers, putting them in cages, making sure families were separated. This is not the right way forward,” Biden said.

Trump responded: “We had the most secure border in history. Now we have the worst border in history! There’s never been anything like it.”

The debate lasted just over 90 minutes.

Most polls between the candidates show Trump leading within the margin of error.

This is the first televised broadcast of a presidential debate before a presidential election. The next debate is scheduled for September.
