Low-altitude investigation: FAA investigates Southwest Airlines incident

The American aviation authority FAA is investigating an incident involving Southwest Airlines in which a flight of the low-cost airline reached an unusually low altitude near Oklahoma City.

According to Reuters, the incident occurred during flight WN4069 from Las Vegas to Oklahoma City on the night of June 18-19, 2024. The Boeing 737-800 descended to an altitude of around 526 meters about 14.5 kilometers from the destination, whereupon the air traffic controller alerted the crew. After an automatic warning, the crew decided to perform a go-around for safety reasons. The aircraft turned, completed another circuit and finally landed safely in Oklahoma City.
