Police officers shot in Fort Smith shooting early Thursday | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

FORT SMITH – An officer returned fire after police were shot at by one or more occupants of a Dodge Charger early Thursday in Fort Smith; however, no injuries were reported, police said.

According to a police news release, officers were shot at near Zero Street around 12:13 a.m. Thursday. The Charger fled the scene after the officer returned fire.

According to police, the Charger was a newer model, dark in color and with a spoiler. There may have been gunshot damage to the windshield and hood.

Investigators collected video footage from business surveillance cameras to find an image of the vehicle that could help with identification.

The shooting is currently under internal investigation, and the officer who fired at the Charger is on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
