CID finds that Yediyurappa sexually abused minors in his house and then tried to cover it up

Part of the 750-page indictment filed by the criminal police on Thursday was viewed by DH It details the roles of former chief minister and senior BJP politician BS Yediyurappa and three co-accused in the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.

Investigators found that on February 2, 2024, at around 11.15 am, the survivor along with her 54-year-old mother, the complainant who died on May 26, visited 81-year-old Yediyurappa at his residence in Dollar’s Colony, Bengaluru, to seek help in a previous sexual assault case and other matters. While speaking to the mother, Yediyurappa held the survivor’s right wrist with his left hand.

Yediyurappa then called the minor into a meeting room adjacent to the hall and locked the door. He then asked the survivor if she remembered the face of the person who had sexually abused her earlier. After the survivor answered “yes” twice, Yediyurappa asked her how old she was then and started sexually abusing her, investigation revealed.

The survivor was frightened, pushed the former chief minister’s hand away and asked him to open the door. Yediyurappa pressed some cash from his pocket into the survivor’s hand and left the room. He told the survivor’s mother that he could not help them, gave her some money from his pocket and sent her away, investigation revealed.

On February 20, the survivor’s mother uploaded a video of the crime on her Facebook account. Arun YM, accused No. 2, along with Rudresh M and G Mariswamy, accused Nos. 3 and 4, contacted the survivor and her mother at the behest of Yediyurappa.

Rudresh and Mariswamy, along with another person who was listed as a witness, went to the survivor’s house and took her and her mother to Yediyurappa’s residence in their car. Investigations revealed that the three accused then forced the survivor’s mother to remove the video from her Facebook account and deleted the video from her iPhone’s gallery.

On Yediyurappa’s instructions, Rudresh paid the survivor Rs 200,000 in cash, investigation revealed. Another conversation recorded by the survivor on her phone, which was not deleted, and Yediyurappa’s voice samples formed important pieces of evidence, well-informed sources said. DH.

Yediyurappa was charged under Section 8 (punishment for sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Section 354A (sexual harassment), Section 204 (destruction of documents or electronic records to prevent their production as evidence) and Section 214 (offering gift or return of property in return for verification of offender) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The three co-accused were charged under Sections 204 and 214 of the IPC.
