Yuba County prison employee arrested for drug smuggling

(FOX40.COM) — An employee at the Yuba County Jail in northern California was arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs into the prison.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department said the 33-year-old civilian employee was arrested Wednesday after being questioned by investigators and is accused of introducing narcotics into a correctional facility.

The arrested employee had been employed at the prison since January 2022 and was assigned as a visiting employee, the authority said.

The detention center is located in Marysville, about 45 miles north of Sacramento.

“I am angry and saddened to learn of these events,” Sheriff Wendell Anderson said in a statement.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff said it was possible there would be more arrests, noting that prison staff and inmates had been “put in danger due to the actions of a few individuals.”

“I am confident that investigators will find all those responsible and hold them accountable for their actions,” the sheriff’s statement continued.
