Man arrested after police chase on lawnmower in Stark County

PERRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WOIO) – A man was arrested after fleeing police on his lawnmower as they attempted to stop him in Perry Township Wednesday morning.

At about 10:35 a.m., officers attempted to stop a man riding a riding lawn mower near the intersection of Southway Street SW and Genoa Avenue SW when he sped off, sending police on a chase. The pursuit was called off for public safety reasons, according to police.

The suspect, William Wackerly, was later arrested.

Wackerly was booked into the Stark County Jail on the following charges:

Serious bodily harm (F1)

FAILURE TO OBEY AN ORDER OR SIGNAL OF AN OFFICER (F3)

RESISTANCE TO ARREST (F4)

OBSTRUCTION OF SERVICE (F5)

FAILURE TO OBEY AN ORDER OR SIGNAL OF AN OFFICER (M1)

Trespassing (M4)

DRIVING WITH A CLOSED VEHICLE (SP)

DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED/TRAFFIC CONSTRAINTS (MM)
