2 dead, 1 seriously injured after plane crashes on mound near Dallas – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A small plane with three people on board crashed near McKinney National Airport on Thursday morning. Two passengers were killed and a third was injured, officials said.

City officials told NBC 5 that the plane took off from McKinney National at 10:22 a.m. and crashed moments later near County Road 317 southeast of the airport.

A video from the Texas Sky Ranger showed the broken plane upside down in a large mound of what appeared to be rocky earth, with parts of the plane scattered about.

The FAA confirmed to NBC 5 on Thursday morning that three people were on board.

The Texas Department of Transportation announced early Thursday afternoon that two of those people had died and a third had been injured. Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas confirmed to NBC 5 that a patient from the accident had been admitted in critical condition.

Further details regarding the pilot and passengers have not yet been confirmed.

A person who said he was working near the accident site and witnessed the crash provided NBC 5 with a video showing work crews rushing to the crashed plane and using a fire truck to try to extinguish the flames.

According to FAA records, the plane was a 1980 Cessna 414A twin-engine aircraft owned by a hunger relief organization in Forney. The plane crashed about 3,500 feet southeast of the north-south runway on land used by a company that recycles fill and concrete.

Police said the investigation into the accident is still in its early stages and will eventually be handed over to federal authorities. The cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed.
