Jersey Shore University man found guilty of sexually assaulting 5-year-old girl on Christmas Day

Jurors on Wednesday found a New Jersey coastal man guilty of sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl on Christmas Day two years ago, the Atlantic County District Attorney’s Office said.

A jury found Oscar Oberlino Gomez Miralda, 41, of Atlantic City, guilty of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, a press release said.

Miralda faces a sentence of 25 years without parole to life in state prison when he is sentenced on September 16. He also faces a five-year sentence for the second-degree misdemeanor.

The hearing, prosecutors said on Thursday, could possibly be postponed to give the judge the opportunity to assess whether Miralda poses a risk of being a repeat offender.
