2 men die in traffic accident in Newaygo County

The Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office said a 22-year-old man from Fremont and a 21-year-old man from Sparta were found dead in the SUV.

NEWAYGO COUNTY, Michigan – Two West Michigan men were killed after an SUV rolled into a drainage ditch Thursday morning, according to the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Bob Mendham said officers were called to East 110th and South Oak Avenue in Grant Township around 6 a.m. for a report of a vehicle on its roof in a ditch.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found an overturned Ford Escape with two men trapped inside.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff identified the driver as a 21-year-old man from Sparta and the passenger as a 22-year-old man from Fremont.

Officials believe the SUV was traveling westbound on E 110th when the driver attempted to turn around on the road, but instead drove off the road and overturned into the sewer ditch.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Grant Fire Department, Jerry’s Towing, Life EMS, Mid Michigan Medical Examiners Group and Newaygo County Central.

The crash remains under investigation.
