Providence Farm Collective Launches Third Year of Grant Street Farmers Market

In 2023, Providence Farm Collective (PFC) farmers sold $22,636 worth of locally grown vegetables to underserved customers through efforts like the Grant Street Farmers Market, known as the PFC Farmers Market. This year, market organizers hope to beat those numbers, with continued help from the community.

The PFC Farmers Market is an outdoor market held at 130 Grant Street in the M&T Bank parking lot. The market takes place every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. What is most unusual and interesting about this particular farmers market is the refugee community that operates it. A visit to the market is a real eye-opener, due to the types of “culturally significant products” on offer.

The PFC Farmers Market is more than just a place to buy fresh produce; it is a celebration of community, culture and resilience.

“This market is like no other, with crops from around the world like amaranth, African eggplant, African corn, roselle, sweet potato greens, as well as other traditional American staples,” explains Mahamud Mberwa, PFC agricultural mentor.

It’s great to see this special farmers market grow from year to year. The more people know about the market and support it, the more sustainable it will become.

With support from the USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program, PFC is proud to offer SNAP/Food Stamp and Double Up Food Bucks benefits, ensuring increased fresh food access for all in our WNY community. Additionally, the Rich Family Foundation is sponsoring $10 vouchers for SNAP recipients, reinforcing their commitment to supporting access to fresh nutritious foods.
