According to Department Manager Henderson, there were conflicting reports as to whether or not the homeowner was in the house, so “great effort was made to rummage around in what was described as a hoarder’s condition.”

As it later turned out, the owner was having dinner when the fire broke out.

Firefighters remained on site most of the night, extinguishing smaller fires.

Due to the severe damage, the house had to be demolished, said Division Chief Henderson.

A cat died in the fire, but firefighters and civilians were not injured.

Division manager Henderson added that the cause was still under investigation.

The fire also caused some exterior damage to the neighboring house.
