Transgender woman convicted of sexually abusing 10-year-old girl in bathroom

A transgender woman from Wyoming was convicted Thursday of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl in the bathroom of a private home.

Michelle Martinez, formerly known as Miguel, was found guilty of first- and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and faces up to 70 years in prison.

The mother of the ten-year-old victim, who was said to have been friends with Martinez, reported the incident to police in March after her daughter said she had been sexually abused by Martinez.

According to the Billings Gazette, the victim told police that Martinez asked her to go into the bathroom and touched her breasts and genitals before penetrating her.

Nurses at Wyoming Medical Center who examined the child for sexual abuse found redness and abrasions on the girl’s genitals.

Martinez, who had a blood alcohol level of 0.218 on the night of the attack, told arresting officers that she did not abuse the child.

Martinez also pleaded not guilty to the charges at an arraignment in Natrona County District Court in May.
