73-year-old man attacked on street in downtown Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA — A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly attacking a 73-year-old stranger on a busy downtown street.

At approximately 12 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Smithfield Street. The victim told officers he was walking down Fourth Avenue when a man approached him. The victim attempted to run away but was chased and then struck in the head.

The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police reviewed surveillance footage of the incident, identified the suspect and arrested him.

Jameel Huff, 24, was charged with aggravated assault and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

This was reportedly the second incident this month in which someone was attacked by a stranger on a downtown street.

On June 6, Shurontaya Festa, 27, was charged with aggravated assault and disturbing the peace. She is accused of attacking Sofia Mancing, 18, of Butler, from behind as she walked along Smithfield Street near Strawberry Way – a location that has seen numerous incidents requiring police involvement in recent months.
