CLAY COUNTY, Indiana (WTWO/WAWV) — To update: Sergeant Matt Ames confirmed that the male pedestrian died as a result of the incident. Westbound lanes of I-70 are closed until the fog clears. After that, all westbound lanes will be closed to complete the investigation. Emergency crews plan to be on scene for several hours.

Original: Traffic is expected to be detoured from westbound I70 at the Brazil exit Thursday morning while Indiana State Police investigate a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a pedestrian.

Sergeant Matt Ames of the Indiana State Police informed WTWO that an accident occurred between a pedestrian and a semi-trailer truck at approximately 2:30 a.m. this morning at the 22 mile marker.

Ames said police will close the interstate sometime Thursday morning while police continue their investigation. He said they expect to reroute traffic at the 23-mile marker once the fog clears and it is safer for vehicles to divert to county roads.

ISP expects the closure to last approximately 30 minutes and urges drivers to exercise caution in the area or seek an alternate route.

WTWO has a photographer en route to the scene of the accident and will update this story as new information becomes available.
