Paris Hilton testifies about abuse in foster care and talks about her shocking experiences

What’s the matter

In a House committee meeting on Wednesday, celebrity and businesswoman Paris Hilton described the abuse she suffered during her time in foster care.

The 43-year-old heiress described in detail her experiences as a teenager when she had to endure sexual assault, coercive measures and forced medication in youth welfare programs.

“These programs promised healing, growth and support, but they didn’t allow me to speak, move freely or even look out the window for two years,” Hilton said.

“Torn from my bed…”

Hilton spoke in detail about the alleged abuse she experienced as a teenager.

“When I was 16 years old, I was ripped from my bed in the middle of the night and taken across state lines to the first of four residential youth facilities.”

“Staff forcibly administered medication and sexually abused me. I was forcibly restrained and dragged through the hallways, stripped naked and placed in solitary confinement,” she said in her statement.

“There is blood on the walls”

Hilton said grimly: “This $23 billion industry views this population (of vulnerable children) as a dollar sign and operates without meaningful oversight.”

“There is no education in these places, there is mold and blood on the walls. It’s horrific what these places look like. They are worse than some dog kennels.”

“They care more about profit.”

She wants the government to pass the Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act, which, according to The guardis “designed to strengthen oversight of residential programs for youth.”

Hilton supports children in similar situations

She has testified in state legislatures and on Capitol Hill, advocating for laws to protect children from what she calls an “inhumane money industry.”

She added: “It has left me with severe post-traumatic stress disorder and trauma that will affect me for the rest of my life.”

Her commitment to children reportedly began after the release of her documentary in 2020 This is Pariswhich revealed the alleged abuse she suffered at Provo Canyon School.

Hilton received a positive response during the hearing

In response to Hilton, Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrell said, “We must always be on guard against fraud and be on guard against Wall Street vultures who embezzle public funds and line their own pockets. We cannot allow the private equity octopus to extend its tentacles into child care facilities.”

In addition, Hilton spoke in her testimony about how her parents were “deceived” and “manipulated” and did not know the truth about these institutions.
