Things to Do: Upcoming Food Events in Houston This Summer 2024

Mark your calendars, because you don’t want to miss these deliciously fun culinary events:

James Beard Award semi-finalist and Excellent chef Chef candidate Dawn Burrell returns to the Houston culinary scene with an immersive dining experience called “Sound and Color.” Burrell will collaborate with local chefs from different cultures, as well as musical and mixed artists, to imagine intimate themed dinners, with the first event taking place on Saturday, June 29 at 6 p.m. and featuring a collaboration with Chef Dominick Lee soon- open a modern Creole restaurant, that of Augustine. Locations will be revealed to ticket holders and future experiences will feature Chef Tristan Epp of Epp and flow Friday July 12 and Mixing in equal parts Friday, July 26.

Wine Tasting and Educational Experience The Generous Pour Returns to The capital grid for its 16th edition, from July 1 to September 1. This year, guests can travel through California’s coastal wine producing regions of Sonoma, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, inspired by the theme “Elevations – The Nature of Wine.” Prices start at $45 with the purchase of an entrée.

Hope Farms, 10401 Scott, will host its First Saturday in July Market on Saturday, July 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., themed “Summer Cookout.” Stock up on freshly harvested vegetables, shop for unique artisan produce, learn the secrets of spring gardening from a Hope Farms farmer, and enjoy free cooking classes for kids and adults from Chef Kevin Bryant of KB Culinary.

Be More Pacific, 506 Yale, will host its fourth annual Lumpia Eating Contest on Sunday, July 7, with the festivities kicking off at 3 p.m. and the contest starting at 3:45 p.m. Inspired by Nathan’s Fourth of July hot dog eating contest, the event showcases Filipino spring rolls, or lumpia, with entrants primarily from small local businesses in the food, beverage and entertainment industries, plus one chosen through a social media contest. Expect lively competition, DJ beats, tasty food and more.

Hamsa Chef Yotam Dolev collaborates with Chef Dominick Lee, recipient of James Beard Award-winning Chef Chris Shepherd’s inaugural “Underbelly Fellowship,” on a summer cuisine menu at Hamsa, 5555 Morningside, on Sunday, July 14. Tel Aviv and New Orleans, guests can enjoy a three-course family meal, with features such as Salatim spread, fried green tomatoes with cayenne peach schug, blackened chicken kabab with black tahini, lemon harissa Gulf shrimp and grits, and nourishing banana and challah bread pudding. Reservations are also open to the public through Resy for $65 per person
