Prison officer arrested for alleged inappropriate relationship with inmate

A Newton County jail guard was arrested after being accused of having a relationship with an inmate.

The Newton County Sheriff addressed the incident on Facebook on Wednesday.

The NCSO said the officer was arrested and charged with having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

The sheriff said this was a decision the officer made alone.

“First and foremost, the officer’s actions were a personal decision and not a reflection of our leadership or the values ​​we hold at the Sheriff’s Office,” the sheriff said.

NCSO added that these actions have never been tolerated in the office.

“I want to make it clear that actions of this nature are not and have never been tolerated in our office. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity and professionalism and any deviation from those standards will be dealt with swiftly and decisively,” the sheriff’s office said.
