IDF announces death of Captain Alon Sacgiu in Jenin operation, 16 injured

Captain Alon Sacgiu, 22, of Hadera, commander of a sniper team of the Haruv reconnaissance unit of the Kfir Brigade, was killed during an operation in the Jenin area, the IDF announced on Thursday.

In the incident, in which Captain Alon Sacgiu was killed, another soldier from the Haruv reconnaissance unit of the Kfir Brigade was seriously injured. The soldier was taken to a hospital for medical treatment and his family has been notified.

Sacgui was killed during a complex operation in Jenin, West Bank, in which 15 other soldiers were injured with varying degrees of severity.

In the incident, an armored vehicle drove along a road where an underground explosive device was located, Israeli media reported.

After the vehicle was damaged, an engineer vehicle arrived at the scene to free it. Shortly after, another armored vehicle arrived and soldiers got out to help the occupants of the first vehicle, but they stepped on a second explosive device that had been placed there.

Sacgui and all those injured in the incident were the soldiers who got out of the second vehicle. There were no injuries in the first vehicle that drove over the first explosive device.

Five moderately injured, ten slightly injured

In addition to the seriously injured soldier, there were five moderately injured people, including an officer and a paramedic.

In addition, ten soldiers were slightly injured, including an officer and a reservist. All injured soldiers were taken to hospitals for immediate medical treatment.

The soldiers operated in Jenin against the Hamas infrastructure there.
