NTSB imposes sanctions on Boeing for publishing details of 737 MAX 9 investigation

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The National Transportation Safety Board said early Thursday that it was imposing sanctions on Boeing for releasing nonpublic details of the ongoing investigation into the Jan. 5 Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 crash.

The NTSB said Boeing “flagrantly violated” the agency’s investigative rules by “disclosing nonpublic investigative information to the media and speculating about possible causes of the January 5 door latch failure.”

The NTSB said Boeing no longer has access to the investigative information the NTSB compiles during its investigation, adding that the aircraft maker was not permitted to ask questions of other participants in an investigative hearing on the ruptured door stop in early August.
