A gun attack breaks out in a Southern California neighborhood, leaving two dead

Two people are dead and several others injured after gunfire broke out in a residential neighborhood in northern Los Angeles County, authorities confirmed to KTLA.

The shooting occurred shortly before 6 p.m. in the 800 block of E Avenue J-12 in Lancaster.

Details are few and it is unclear exactly how the deadly incident unfolded, but according to Luis Meza, a freelance photojournalist, gunfire erupted as several men gathered outside an apartment complex at the scene.

Footage of the aftermath of the shooting showed a large presence of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and investigators at the scene. Blood was visible on the sidewalk outside the apartment complex and bullet casings were littered in the street.

In a press release, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department authorities said two of the victims were taken to the hospital, where both were pronounced dead.

At least six other gunshot victims drove themselves to the hospital, according to Meza, but the Sheriff’s Department did not confirm this information to KTLA.

Meza also reported that there were shooters, one armed with a 9mm pistol and another with an AR-15 rifle.

KTLA has reached out to the sheriff’s department and is awaiting a response.
