Burbank teacher found dead at home; Her Son Arrested for Murder – NBC Los Angeles

A woman who was found dead in her Burbank home and whose son was named as a suspect in the murder was identified Wednesday as a Burbank Unified School District teacher.

Karyn Lombardo, 57, was a kindergarten teacher at Bret Harte Elementary School in Burbank, a school official confirmed.

The district superintendent also confirmed her death in an email to parents and faculty members, saying Lombardo’s death was “unexpected.”

“Throughout her highly successful career, Ms. Lombardo touched the lives of thousands of students, parents and colleagues who will mourn this loss in the days ahead,” Burbank Unified Superintendent John Paramo said in the email. “Her dedication, warmth and passion for teaching have touched the lives of many students and colleagues. Their profound impact and loss to this community will be deeply felt throughout the city of Burbank.”

The district said Lombardo taught in Burbank for more than three decades, serving in a variety of teaching roles, including as a bilingual teacher.

Burbank police said officers and paramedics discovered Lombardo at her home in the 800 block of North Avon Street at 10 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call about an “unconscious female.”

“Officers and paramedics performed life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene,” police said in a statement Wednesday.

“Mrs. Lombardo’s adult son was subsequently arrested… based on the information received and evidence at the scene showing that he caused her death during an altercation at the family home,”

Kyle Lombardo, 25, was being held on $2 million bail on suspicion of murder. He is expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 818-238-3210.
