Man convicted of Brookside rape to face parole hearing in July

A man convicted of raping women in Tulsa’s Brookside neighborhood in the early 1990s is set to be released on parole next month.

A jury found Glamar Sneed guilty in 1996 and sentenced him to two life sentences plus 66 years to be served consecutively.

One of his victims and a lead investigator believe Sneed should not be released.

They both say it’s still emotional to talk about it, even 30 years later, and they believe women could be in danger if Sneed is released on parole.

One of his victims says she will never forget how scared she was when Sneed broke into her home and sexually assaulted her while she slept.

“You never really get over it,” she said. “You don’t live your life in fear, but you are very aware of your surroundings, you have to,” the victim said.

She says the news that he has a parole hearing next month and that he may be free again is terrible – not just for her, but for other women too.

“I don’t know what this is doing to me,” the woman said. “You see, just talking about it is tearing me apart. Even after 30 years. I don’t want to spend my life in fear.”

Gary Stansill was the Tulsa Police Department’s lead investigator in the Sneed case.

He remembers all the break-ins, the exhibitionist cases, the voyeur cases and the rapes and believes that Sneed should not be released.

“It doesn’t matter whether this person, Mr. Sneed, was supposedly reformed or not,” Stansill said. “What I’m saying is: Why should we take the risk?”

The victim says her life has changed forever.

She says she doesn’t want Sneed to ever have the chance to do that to another woman.

“He basically took my life,” she said. “The life I had before, that woman died. I had to figure out what to do next. I can’t imagine what it would be like if he got out.”

Sneed’s parole hearing is scheduled for July.
