NEW YORK (PIX11) — A strong cold front moving through the tri-state area Wednesday night could bring dangerous storms. A severe weather watch has been issued as the storms could bring damaging winds and isolated large hailstones.

Showers and thunderstorms developed throughout the Ohio Valley on Wednesday afternoon and are expected to move toward the tri-state area during the evening. There may be several thunderstorms, with the first arriving in New York City around 8 or 9 p.m. After a break in the late evening hours, another shower may develop overnight, but it will not be as intense.

The first wave of storms in the evening may bring damaging winds over 55 miles per hour, as well as torrential rain and lots of lightning.

It may still be cloudy early Thursday, but generally skies will clear up during the day as a high pressure system moves in. Humidity will also ease and temperatures will reach highs of around 30 degrees Celsius.

It will be a wonderful end to the week, as high pressure will be in place over the tri-state region on Friday. It will be a sunny day with temperatures around 25 degrees.

A warm front will move into the region over the weekend, bringing the possibility of showers late Saturday. Temperatures are expected to drop back below 27 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, the front will move north, bringing back the humidity. It will also be very warm, with highs around 27 degrees Celsius. Then another cold front will move in, bringing another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Things will calm down at the beginning of next week. On Monday and Tuesday it will be mostly sunny with temperatures around 27 degrees.
