23-year-old arrested in connection with shooting in LaVilla

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting Tuesday night outside the Greyhound bus station in a normally quiet LaVilla neighborhood.

Koby Robinson was found half a mile from the crime scene. There were 30 pieces of evidence on the ground that investigators were still trying to piece together.

According to the police report, Robinson led them on a chase before his arrest.

A witness who did not see the shooting but was close enough to hear the shots said it sounded like a gunfight.

“The first sounded like a rifle and the second was definitely a pistol,” the witness said.

One of the bullets hit the second-floor window of a terraced house. Fortunately, the house was still under construction.

Despite the shots, no one was injured.

“It was pretty crazy that so many shots were fired and no one was hit,” the witness said.

Retired JSO chief of investigations and current News4JAX crime and safety analyst Tom Hackney said he understands that community members are nervous after the shooting.

“That’s a lot of shooting. That’s a lot of bullets flying in a lot of different directions,” Hackney said. “The city has really put effort into making the LaVilla area the way it is. New construction. People live there. Businesses move there, and when there’s a little bit of violence there, it really scares people, and it should. That’s an example of how dangerous this random shooting can be. This random fighting.”

Robinson was charged with felon in possession of a firearm, armed trespass, and resisting justice.

The case is being investigated.
