The Houston Astros are reportedly looking to acquire Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

According to Houston Astros writer Michael Schwab, the Astros are reportedly considering acquiring first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Astros have identified Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as one of their top trade targets, according to sources.

It will take a lot to sign a player like him, who will be a free agent in 2026, but he would bring a big stick and solve the first base problem.

You might wonder why the Astros would consider buying at the trade deadline, but Houston has clawed its way back into contention by winning seven straight games and eight of its last ten. They cut a 10.0 game deficit in the American League West to 4.5 in the span of just one week. And with the Seattle Mariners currently struggling, they could be ready to regain some ground in the near future.

The Astros had Jose Abreu as their everyday first baseman before the season, but ultimately designated him for assignment due to his issues and Guerrero Jr. would solidify Houston’s position again that year and next.

Guerrero Jr. is hitting .288 entering play Wednesday. He has 10 home runs and 40 RBIs with an on-base percentage of .368. He might be able to do more damage in Houston given the lineup protection he would also have around him.

There are questions about the strength of Houston’s farm system when it comes to acquiring Guerrero Jr. and other teams like the Royals and Kansas City Mariners could be lurking.
