JFF suspends selection of Leon Bailey for Reggae Boyz squad | News

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has temporarily suspended Leon Bailey’s nomination for the men’s senior national team.

In a press release on Wednesday, JFF said the matter had also been referred to the newly appointed chairman of the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee, David Watt.

It explained that the decision to suspend Bailey was made “in light of recent circumstances surrounding his comments and his non-participation in the team for the 2024 Copa America despite being nominated.”

It said: “His stated wish to take a break from his national duties was also taken into account and the suspension of his selection is intended to avoid further misunderstandings.”

The JFF said it values the contributions of all players and respects their individual decisions regarding national team participation.

Bailey was originally announced as part of the squad for the Copa America, but his inclusion sparked some controversy with the player reacting to the announcement on social media, calling the release “misleading.”

Craig Butler, Bailey’s manager, responded to the announcement by saying Bailey’s stance on taking a break to be with family and take care of his mental health has not changed.
