Montgomery County deputies arrest two suspects in ongoing drug investigation | News

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan. – Montgomery County officials arrested two people on May 2 in connection with an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Officers on patrol in Independence saw a black Jeep parked near the Main Street overpass near the train tracks, which upon investigation was recognized as a suspect’s vehicle.

Officers approached the suspects in the Jeep, later identified as Quayland Johnson and Trinity Schlegel, both of whom had outstanding arrest warrants in Montgomery County.

Both suspects were taken into custody after officers saw drug paraphernalia in the vehicle that appeared to be used to smoke fentanyl pills, also known as “Dirty 30s.”

Johnson was also wanted in connection with a drug-related search warrant that had been served at a home a week earlier.

Both suspects were booked into the Montgomery County Jail on their warrants.

The Jeep was impounded and transported to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for further examination.

Following a search warrant, officers found additional drug paraphernalia and additional fentanyl pills in the vehicle.

Montgomery County Sheriff Ron Wade issued the following statement following the arrests.

“This is a prime example of proactive policing. Our deputies were searching for Johnson and Schlegel, and when they found them, they took them into custody. Their assertiveness has also helped remove dangerous and highly addictive drugs from our streets. “I am very proud of their dedication and commitment to the safety of Montgomery County.”

Officers are continuing their investigation and expect additional charges to be filed against the suspects related to the items in the Jeep.
