Man who sexually abused a child must go to prison for more than eight years

A man in his 40s who sexually abused a child has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison.

Sean Begley admitted ten offences, including sexual abuse of a child and making indecent images of children.

The 48-year-old from Monsdale Road in Bristol was sentenced to eight years and eight months in prison at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday.

In April 2024, the victim of the crimes first reported the attacks and subsequently filed a complaint with the police.

In a victim impact statement, a family member speaking on behalf of the victim said the trauma would stay with them “for the rest of their lives” and they “could never forgive him.”

“The suffering and harm caused by Begley is immeasurable,” said DC Liam Owens-Reeve of Avon and Somerset Police.

“He is a dangerous and manipulative criminal.

“The victim showed tremendous courage in speaking out about the abuse she suffered and her support of our investigation ultimately led to Begley receiving this lengthy prison sentence.”

Begley must also sign the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life and is also subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
