Tornado watch extended, special weather statement issued

CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WBTV) – As another round of rain and storms moves across the Carolinas early Thursday morning, several weather warnings remain in effect, including a First Alert Weather Day issued by WBTV meteorologists.

In South Carolina, Chester and York counties remain under a Tornado watch to 4 a.m. Six other counties in the Upstate region are also covered by the watch. As of 2 a.m., no counties in North Carolina are under a tornado watch

A Special weather statement was declared for Cabarrus, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg and Rowan counties in North Carolina and Chester and York counties in South Carolina. The statement comes as radar continues to track strong thunderstorms in the early morning hours with wind gusts of up to 40-45 mph.
