Air Quality Warning issued for NYC, Long Island

NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York health authorities have issued an air quality warning for Wednesday due to high ground-level ozone levels.

The warning warns that the air quality index could be above 100.

The warning is in effect until 11 p.m. for New York City, Rockland and Westchester counties, as well as Long Island, which includes Suffolk and Nassau counties.

High ozone levels can cause cloudy skies and reduced visibility at high concentrations, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation.

People with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, young children and people who exercise or work outdoors should consider limiting strenuous outdoor activities, officials said.
