Motorcyclist killed in accident on I-81 in Botetourt County

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash on I-81 in Bototourt County on Sunday, June 23.

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash on I-81 in Botetourt County on Sunday, June 23.

According to VSP, a 2008 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle carrying a passenger and driver was traveling northbound on I-81 near mile marker 163 when it attempted to pass on the center line between two vehicles. According to state police, it lost control and struck a 2020 Ram Promaster 3500, causing the vehicle to roll over.

The driver of the Harley Davidson, 25-year-old Nicholas C. Jennings of Moneta, died at the scene. VSP reports that the passenger on the motorcycle also suffered serious injuries.

Both passengers on the motorcycle were wearing helmets.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation. WFXR News will update this story as more information becomes available.
