South Florida TE Teigan Martin dies in car crash in Minnesota

South Florida tight end Teigan Martin was killed in a car crash in Minnesota on Monday. He was 20 years old.

According to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, Martin was found after a black 2013 BMW M5 crashed into a ditch on a rural road. An initial investigation determined that Martin was traveling at a high rate of speed when his car crossed into the oncoming lane, entered a ditch and overturned. Martin was wearing a seatbelt and the full investigation into the crash is ongoing.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Teigan Martin,” USF coach Alex Golesh said in a statement. “His teammates, our coaches and staff, and all who knew and loved him, deeply mourn his loss. We extend our deepest condolences to Teigan’s family and friends and are in their thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.”

Martin transferred from Liberty to USF ahead of the 2023 season but did not play last season. He spent one year with the Flames and did not play in 2022. The Bulls finished 7-6 in 2023 and won the Boca Raton Bowl in 2022 after a 1-11 season.

Martin was a native of Mayer, Minnesota, and played at Mayer Lutheran High School. The school won the Minnesota Class IA football title in Martin’s senior season of 2021. Rivals ranked him as a two-star talent for the class of 2022.
