The Missouri Attorney General’s Office is continuing its investigation into the Transgender Center at Washington University in St. Louis and is reportedly taking a closer look at the clinic’s therapists and social workers. The office launched the investigation last year after allegations that the center caused “permanent harm” to minors.

After the initial investigation began in February 2023 and a crackdown on so-called “gender-affirming care” as a result of a new state law, the center stopped treating minors in September 2023. Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s investigation, which began with a review of university documents, is now examining social workers and therapists who worked with the center.

Bailey’s investigation was launched after Jamie Reed, who previously worked at the centre for four years, accused the centre of causing “permanent harm” to patients, including by lying to parents and children about the effects of puberty blockers.

In an affidavit, Reed also claimed that children who used the “pronouns” of inanimate objects, such as “mushroom” or “rock,” were given puberty blockers. Reed is now executive director of the LGBT Courage Coalition, a group that “addresses the current state of gender medicine for children and adolescents in the United States and Canada.”

Reed agrees to let Bailey’s office take a look at the therapists and social workers who work at the center.

“These providers have written most of the letters giving the green light to provide medical treatment to children and adolescents,” Reed said. Campus reform.

“As professionals, they should be held accountable for their clinical decisions: why they wrote letters to children asking them to start treatment after just one or two sessions, why many of their letters were virtually identical,” Reed continued.

The Washington University Transgender Center is affiliated with the university’s medical school. The center offers hormone therapy, according to its website, but does not appear to have a list of social workers or therapists.
