The Houston Astros are being asked to pursue a blockbuster trade for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

The Houston Astros are quietly becoming a team to watch as a potential playoff contender. After a difficult start to the season, things are starting to improve.

Heading into their June 26 game against the Colorado Rockies, the Astros are on a six-game winning streak and are one of the hottest teams in baseball.

With that impressive streak, they improved to 39-40 this season. That record keeps them firmly in the mix when it comes to the American League Wild Card race.

Due to the major turnaround they have experienced, Houston becomes a more interesting team to watch ahead of the MLB trade deadline. It is much more likely that they will consider being aggressive as a potential buyer.

One need the Astros could look to pursue is a trade for a first baseman.

There could be a blockbuster trade opportunity that Houston could capitalize on. While the Toronto Blue Jays have said they have no intention of trading Vladimir Guerrero Jr., things can change quickly. The right offer could force the Blue Jays to reconsider.

Clutch points urged the Astros to pursue a trade for Guerrero. They see him as the ideal person to meet Houston’s current and future needs.

“This would be a great destination for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. if the Astros were willing to factor the 25-year-old’s $19.9 million salary into their payroll. Guerrero recently rediscovered his power stroke, demonstrated by his shooting 471-foot moon on the roof of a parking lot at Fenway Park.”

Guerrero had a solid overall season for Toronto. He played in 79 games and continued to prove that he is one of the best first basemen in the game.

Over his 79 games, he hit .288/.368/.435 to go along with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs.

At 25 years old, Guerrero fits the mold of what the Astros want in terms of potential trade targets. They are looking for players with future control over contracts. Guerrero would come with years left on his contract.

There’s no guarantee Houston would want to spend that much in a potential trade. However, if they can improve this season and for the future, they should consider this option.

It will be interesting to see what the next month has in store for the Astros. They could go either way at the trade deadline.

That being said, if they decide to be buyers, Guerrero would certainly be a good choice.
