AAA predicts 2.3 million Georgians will hit the road and fly on July 4 – WSB-TV Channel 2

“The summer travel season is off to a hot start and we expect to set new travel records on the road and in the sky during Independence Day week,” said Debbie Haas, vice president of travel for AAA . “There will be 3.5 million more travelers than last year. That means even more people at airports and popular attractions like beaches, lakes and theme parks.

While there are several ways to get around during the celebration weekend, AAA expects many people to drive to holiday hot spots.

Due to the expected high number of travelers, AAA expects to rescue approximately 800,000 stranded drivers during the nine-day holiday period. The company said it expects the most common problems on the road to be dead batteries, flat tires and vehicle stalls.

“The sweltering summer months can wreak havoc on your vehicle’s battery and tires,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA spokesperson. “That’s why it’s so important to have your vehicle inspected before you leave. This could reveal potential vehicle problems that would not otherwise come to light until after your trip.

To keep drivers and technicians safe, AAA urges drivers to stay focused while driving.

“AAA roadside technicians will risk their lives to save the hundreds of thousands of drivers who have their cars stranded on the side of the road,” Waiters said. “We urge drivers to stay focused on the road and its shoulders. Whether it’s a rescue worker, a tow truck or a disabled vehicle, if you see flashing lights, move over so everyone can get home safely for the holidays.”

AAA said it was expecting 2 million drivers, making up the bulk of the 2.3 million Georgians expected on July 4.
