The original Dead Rising gets a remaster

The Dead Rising series has been dormant for what feels like an eternity. The last main game in the zombie-killing playground series was 2017’s Dead Rising 4. However, longtime fans consider only the first two games worthy of the name – and it looks like Capcom actually agrees.

The Japanese publisher has just unveiled Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, a remastered version of the original Dead Rising currently in development at its studios in Japan.

The new game is exactly what it says on the tin: a remastered version of the original game for modern platforms. It has a new coat of paint and Frank has a terrible new hairline. You can check out the reveal trailer for yourself below!

Dead Rising is one of Capcom’s most popular series, but until today’s announcement, many felt it had been abandoned. Capcom is currently enjoying a new renaissance thanks to several successful and critically acclaimed games. However, Dead Rising has been oddly left out of that party.

Things have clearly changed, though, and Dead Rising fans will no doubt be happy about that. More broadly, it also shows that Capcom isn’t done with the zombie series, meaning the newly announced game may just be a test run of sorts for the company before investing in a full-fledged sequel.

It’s also worth noting that the game is being overseen by a core team in Japan, as Capcom no longer has any Western studios – another aspect that long-time fans will appreciate.
