Dead whale found floating in Harpswell, Maine, to be recovered – NECN

A whale carcass found on the shore of a Maine town earlier this week is set to be recovered, NBC affiliate News Center Maine reported.

The city of Harpswell will begin recovering the dead whale at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the city’s harbormaster said in a press release.

The dead whale was spotted floating in shallow waters between Bailey and Orr’s Islands on Monday, News Center Maine reported.

Crews will attempt to free the whale from the ledges using a boat. It will then be towed to Garrison Cove Landing and lifted into a dump truck.

The whale will be taken to a farm in Litchfield for composting, reports News Center Maine.
