Parliamentary elections – News: Labour party member suspended after arrest in connection with Westminster honeytrap scandal

Tory election betting investigation: Rule violations ‘totally unacceptable’, says Welsh minister

Labour has suspended a party member after he was arrested in connection with the Honeytrap scandal in Westminster.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that an Islington man was taken into custody this morning following an investigation launched in April when several MPs, staff and political journalists were sent “unwanted messages”.

As Westminster is rocked by gambling allegations, Sir Keir Starmer refuses to change betting rules in the face of the escalating betting scandal.

During a campaign visit to Leicestershire, the Labour leader said he was “against the will to go down the route of changing the rules” and blamed the politicians involved in the saga.

He praised his response to the Gambling Commission’s investigation into Labour candidate Kevin Craig, saying it showed confident leadership in contrast to Sunak’s “inaction”.

Sir Ed Davey admitted betting on the outcome of the 2010 general election, and Conservative Cabinet minister Alister Jack stressed that he had not broken any rules by placing bets on general election day.

As election day approaches, the Prime Minister and Sir Keir Starmer will face each other in a final televised debate on the BBC tonight at 8.15pm.

Breaking news: Greenpeace activist climbs onto conservative fighting bus

A woman climbed onto the roof of the Conservative campaign bus as it stopped in Nottinghamshire for its first visit of the day.

The Greenpeace activist held up a flag bearing the green logo that read “Clean electricity, not rice power.”

Amy Rugg-Easey made it to the roof of the bus with the help of a ladder.

Ms Rugg-Easey claimed she staged the action because “we deserve better”.

Speaking to reporters on the campaign bus, she added: “On climate and nature, the Conservatives are the worst of all the parties and it is so obvious.

“I mean, what have they done? We deserve better. We deserve better when it comes to climate and nature.”

A Greenpeace spokesman said the protest by boarding the Conservatives’ campaign bus was “legitimate and important”.

What is the Westminster honey trap scandal about?

Back in April, British police confirmed that they were investigating reports from several victims that MPs and staff in Westminster had received unsolicited messages.

A long list of men admitted to receiving flirtatious WhatsApp texts from people nicknamed “Charlie” or “Abi.”

In many cases they were sent explicit images and texts.

Then-Conservative MP William Wrag resigned from the party after admitting giving the phone numbers of his fellow MPs to a man he met on a dating app.

Among the targeted victims was Tory Luke Evans, who claimed he was the victim of “cyber-flashing and malicious communications.”

An estimated 20 people from the political sphere received unsolicited text messages.

Streeting admits to betting that Sajid Javid will become Health Secretary

Wes Streeting has admitted that he bet on Sajid Javid to become Health Secretary in 2021.

The Health Minister stressed that he had not bet on this general election and had no inside knowledge that the Tory MP could become a Cabinet minister.

He told ITV: “I have not bet on this election. I once successfully bet that Sajid Javid would be the next Health Secretary. Yes, that’s all.”

Mr Streeting added: “I made an educated guess that Boris Johnson hated Cabinet reshuffles. Sajid Javid was at the back and that’s why I was successful on that occasion.”
