Delaware bear, affectionately known as “Delabear,” struck and killed by car on Route 1 in New Castle, state police say

NEW CASTLE, Delaware (WPVI) – A black bear believed to be the one recently spotted roaming around Delaware neighborhoods has died, according to state police.

The wild animal, affectionately known as “Delabear,” was struck and killed by a car on Route 1 near School Bell Road around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

DelDOT was called to the scene and removed the bear from the road.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Officials remind residents to remain cautious while driving and to watch for wildlife.
